NEW SABER RIDER & The Star Sheriffs VIDEO GAME!!

from Anime News Network:

80's Throwback: Ecto-Cooler!!

from the wiki: Ecto-Cooler was a product tie-in with the cartoon series
"The Real Ghostbusters" based on the 1984 live-action film,
"Ghostbusters" Hi-C struck a deal in 1987 to promote the series by developing a drink. Expected to last only as long as the series, the drink was successful beyond expectations and continued after the series' 1991 cancellation to be produced for more than a decade. The Ecto-Cooler box featured The Real Ghostbusters character "Slimer", as did the commercials. Slimer left the box sometime around 1997, but Minute Maid did not discontinue the product until 2001, at which point it was renamed Shoutin' Orange Tangergreen. Slimer was replaced on the packaging by a similar-looking blob of lips. The product was still noted as ecto cool on many store receipts.

In 2006, Shoutin' Orange Tangergreen was renamed Crazy Citrus Cooler.

In 2007, Crazy Citrus Cooler was discontinued.

To this day there are geeks everywhere clamoring for Ecto-Cooler, & a ongoing petition to Hi-C to bring the recipe back!! >_<

I used to love Ecto-Cooler...

This is the kind of stuff I would kill to have at a Classic Cartoon Party...

The Sect Of Gadget Hackwrench

You remember "Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers" right? A popular cartoon from the late 80's/early 90's starring Disney's Chipmunk duo? Well what you probably didn't know is that the cute girl mouse team member named "Gadget" has her own religious cult in Russia!!

“She is the divine being, the most untouched and perfect sibling of the great God on Earth”, say one of the participants. “Why I love her? It’s a stupid question, how can’t I love the Goddess?”. “She is strict, cute, optimistic and her level of technical knowledge is unachievable for a mortal being.” those are just a few of the testimonies of the sect followers.

Check out her religious followers in action...
It's amazing that a character who has had no new media in over 15 years could have a religion based on her with devoted followers...but it's true.

"What strange new world, to have such creatures in it!" Forced into hiding by a global ecological cataclysm, humans emerge from their underground warrens half a millennium later to discover that the Earth has been totally transformed. All of the familiar flora and fauna are gone, replaced by a radically altered natural order populated by rampaging dinosaurs and strange, new creatures. It takes guts, grim determination, ingenuity and a whole lot of old-fashioned luck just to survive, much less thrive, in this alien wilderness-all qualities that ace mechanic Jack Tenrec, lovely scientist Hannah Dundee and their friends possess in abundance. But even the worthiest of these hardy souls are hard-pressed to surmount the obstacles presented by their new homeland. And when those trials are further compounded by the underhanded and selfish actions of the cutthroat human scavengers they encounter, even the best equipped and bravest among them might not endure. Xenozoic combines lush and richly realized ink-and-brush artwork with a pulp-fueled narrative to create an action-packed fantasy-an unrelenting adventure that also serves as a subtle cautionary fable concerning the unforeseen consequences that shortsighted present-day decisions might have upon future generations.

Satoshi Kon 1963-2010 (8.24.10)

from AAN:
Jim Vowles, a member of the Otakorp Board of Directors for the Otakon convention, has announced on Tuesday that director Satoshi Kon has passed away. Kon was 47. The staff of Otakon confirmed his passing with MADHOUSE studio founder Masao Maruyama. Maruyama had wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday night in Japan that an important director of the studio had suddenly passed away. However, Maruyama declined to name the director at the time.

Kon began working as a manga creator on such works as Kaikisen (1990) before deciding to delve into the anime industry with the art design of Hiroyuki Kitakubo and Katsuhiro Otomo's Roujin Z video in 1991. He then worked on the script and art direction of "Magnetic Rose," a segment of Otomo's 1995 science-fiction anthology film Memories.

Kon first drew worldwide attention with his feature film directorial debut, the psychological suspense film Perfect Blue, in 1997. He would follow that with a string of critically acclaimed anime projects: Millennium Actress (2001), Tokyo Godfathers (2003), Paranoia Agent (2004), and Paprika (2006). At the time of his passing, Kon was working at MADHOUSE on a new feature film called Yume-Miru Kikai.

He died from pancriotic cancer @ 46. =(

* On a personal note, "Perfect Blue" is one of my all time favorite anime movies, Kon was never a guest at Otakon, but I was lucky enough to have producer Masao Maruyama sign & personalize my dvd in 2005.
Kon was one of the best up & coming Japanese animation directors, & was one of the few I recognized that excited me with each announcement. He will be missed...

PRODUCING PARKER Season 2 officially coming in February 2011!!

Kim Cattrall Returns For Second Season Of Producing Parker

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
(TORONTO – July 29, 2010) – Breakthrough Films & Television announced today that Kim Cattrall has signed on as the voice of “Dee” for the second season of Producing Parker. In addition, the animated sitcom will also feature the voice talents of Jason Priestley (Call Me Fitz, Beverly Hills 90210)
as Parker’s high school bully, Catherine O’Hara (Best in Show) as Parker’s cumbersome Mother, and Mark McKinney (Kids in the Hall) as Parker’s new boss.

Production on the new season has begun and broadcast is scheduled for February 2011 on TVtropolis in Canada.

The quirky crew of “The Dee Show” is back at it again as Producing Parker returns for a second season of savvy daytime TV satire. This season, host Dee lands the show in jail, goes to rehab, and finally climbs the ratings charts to number one. While producer Parker, has her challenges managing Dee, her own love life proves the far greater challenge as she continues to fall for all the wrong guys: a radical environmentalist, her high school bully, a ghost, and, as always, dreamy network head, Blake Bellamy. Meanwhile, segment producer Simon, has finally started bringing his A-Game to work: plotting to put Parker on the show, making first contact with aliens and even applying for a job at Hard News Report. Season Two of Producing Parker takes this high-stakes, irreverent animated comedy to the next hilarious level.

Returning voice cast members include Kristen Booth (MVP, Young People F***ing) as “Parker Kovak”; Aaron Abrams (Slings And Arrows, Amelia, Flash of Genius) as “Simon Nolan,” the Dee Show’s resident copywriter; and Peter Keleghan (Cheaper by the Dozen 2, Murdoch Mysteries) as “Blake Bellamy,” the charismatic station owner.

Kim Cattrall comments, “I'm so happy to be back for our second season on Producing Parker that includes a guest appearance from my favorite comedic actress, Catherine O’Hara."

Producer Christin Simms says, "We're all very excited about the amazing voice talent we've attracted to the series this season. Having accomplished actors like Jason Priestley, Catherine O'Hara, Mark McKinney and, of course, Kim Cattrall on the show is a real compliment to the absurd yet heartwarming stories we tell on Producing Parker."

Producing Parker is a co-production between Breakthrough Films & Television and Philippine Animation Studio in association with Canwest Media. Created, written, story edited, and executive produced by Laura Kosterski; executive produced by Ira Levy and Peter Williamson; story edited and produced by Christin Simms. PRESS RELEASE!! AVATAR LEGEND OF KORRA!!

BURBANK, Calif., July 21 /PRNewswire/ — Nickelodeon, the number one producer of television animation in the world, has greenlit a new series from the creators of the hit animated TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender, it was announced today by Brown Johnson, President, Animation, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group. The new series The Legend of Korra (working title), from creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, will premiere on Nickelodeon in 2011, continuing the evolution of the animated franchise and its mythology. The original series was the inspiration for the Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies live-action epic adventure, The Last Airbender, which has already grossed more than $115 million at the box office to date.

“Mike and Bryan have imagined a compelling new story inspired by the Airbender mythology that they so brilliantly crafted when the TV series began,” Johnson said. “This new avatar is not only a girl, but also hot-headed, independent and ready to take on the world.”

The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra. With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air. Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern “Avatar” world, Republic City – a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology. It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive. However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart. Under the tutelage of Aang’s son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.

Launched in February 2005, Avatar aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon and was ranked among the top five animated properties on television among boys, 2-11 and 6-11 (2005/2006). During this time, the series reached a total of 21.7 million total viewers (persons 2+), including 8.8 million kids 2-11 and 6.3 million kids 6-11*. Currently, Avatar: The Last Airbender is the number one program on Nicktoons among tweens. (Source: *Nielsen Cume Data – July 2008, Live + 7 day, 6 min. qualifier.)

Avatar: The Last Airbender was created and executive produced by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

An award-winning filmmaker, DiMartino was a director at Film Roman for six years, working on the prime-time animated series King of the Hill, Family Guy and Mission Hill. During his tenure there, DiMartino animated and directed the short animated film Atomic Love, which has gone on to screen at festivals across the country including Sundance and the Los Angeles Film Festival. It also aired as part of the Nicktoons Network Animation Festival.

Konietzko began his career in animation as a character designer at Film Roman for Fox’s prime-time series, Family Guy. He soon moved to the post of assistant director for two more Film Roman shows, Mission Hill and King of the Hill, working beside animation director DiMartino. Konietzko then became a storyboard artist and later an art director for the Nickelodeon animated series Invader Zim.

The new Avatar series will be produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif., and is co-executive produced by Joaquim Dos Santos.

AVATAR: Legend of KORRA

Avatar: Legend of Korra is an upcoming animation project set in the Avatar universe. The title was trademarked by Nickelodeon in May 2010 and leaked by the media shortly afterward; more information was revealed in late June 2010, just prior to the release of the feature film "The Last Airbender." While unconfirmed, multiple sources have stated that the project is a brand new television series.

Nickelodeon is currently staffing up for production, adding that "Avatar: The Last Airbender" co-creatorsMichael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko are involved and that more information will be forthcoming at a later date, possibly Comic-Con 2010. 80'S cartoon revival...

^ Snake Eyes character art (among other series on "The Hub") from GI Joe: Renegades

We have a bunch of new shows premiering this fall & in 2011 that were 4 of the 5 biggest cartoon series of the 80's(-He-Man) ... between Transformers: Prime, GI Joe: Reneagades, Voltron: Force (formerly known as Voltron "Panthera Force") & Thundercats, we are seeing what currently Hollywood is all about with remakes, plus something similar to what happened towards the beginning of last decade... lots of the "best of 80's properties" making a comeback. ^_^

Hasbro will be handling the merch for Transformers & GI Joe of course, & Mattel has Voltron & Bandai has Thundercats...

Some animation definitely I am looking forward to, & am hoping they all can rival the beloved originals.

*Also "The Hub" will be airing classic Hasbro shows like the original 80's Transformers & GI Joe, (& possibly Jem!)

THUNDERCATS, HO!

WARNER BROS. ANIMATION ANSWERS THE CALL WITH A NEW
TAKE ON THE CLASSIC ANIMATED SERIES “THUNDERCATS,”
TO AIR ON CARTOON NETWORK

(June 3, 2010 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) has begun production on “ThunderCats,” an all-new animated series for Cartoon Network, based upon the iconic 1980s action classic. “ThunderCats” is the newest series from WBA, joining “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” which was recently renewed for a third season, and the following forthcoming programs: “The Looney Tunes Show,” “MAD,” “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” and “Young Justice.” The announcement was made today by Sam Register, Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs, Warner Bros. Animation.

“In addition to being Warner Bros. Animation’s first anime series, ‘ThunderCats’ marks our most ambitious foray yet into fantasy,” said Register. “The realism and dynamic visual style we’ve achieved are sure to thrill viewers, and the cool weapons, vehicles and technology should help the show appeal to a diverse audience.”

The 21st century reimagining of the series marks a creative collaboration between WBA and Studio4°C, one of the most vibrant animation studios in Japan, with credits including “The Animatrix,” “Gotham Knights” and “Halo Legends.” WBA is working closely with Studio4°C, utilizing the latter’s expertise to give the “ThunderCats” characters a new cutting-edge look while remaining true to the compelling storylines and mythology of the original series.

“We at Studio4°C are excited to be in this creative partnership with Warner Bros. Animation to bring ‘ThunderCats’ to life,” said Eiko Tanaka, President and CEO, Studio4°C. “This collaboration combines the strengths of our two companies – high production values and great storytelling – toward reintroducing this classic fan-favorite to a new audience.”

Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, “ThunderCats” characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.

The new “ThunderCats” will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. SHE-RA returns to DVD print with SHE-RA: PRINCESS OF POWER ~THE COMPLETE SERIES~ & more!!

From TVonDVD.com:

Where darkness rules, fights the champion of light! Armed with the Sword of Protection atop her winged unicorn, Swift Wind, She-Ra, twin sister of He-Man, is the defender of Crystal Castle. Together with the members of the Great Rebellion, She-Ra stands ready against Hordak and the Evil Horde, fighting to bring peace to Etheria. "For the honor of Grayskull...I am She-Ra!"
In 2004 the Filmation library of television shows was purchased by a British company, Entertainment Rights ("ER"), who licensed the North American home video rights for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe to BCI Eclipse. BCI did a great job releasing He-Man on DVD in 2005-06, so ER also dealt them the DVD rights to other Filmation shows, including She-Ra: Princess of Power. Following She-ra's equally terrific DVD releases in 2006-07, BCI bagan to fall on hard times as the beginnings of the late-2000s economic recession began to be felt. By the end of 2008, parent company Navarre had shut down BCI, and quite a few of the properties whose home video rights were contracted to them had been left in limbo. Many of those properties ended up at Mill Creek Entertainment, but the various Filmation library titles have never been among them.

Since ER currently owns Classic Media, the studio which produces DVD releases of such animated classics as Rocky & Bullwinkle, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, Underdog and others, it made sense to us all along that the Filmation properties would probably land over at Classic at some point. Today we've learned that this is now happening! Classic Media and distributor Vivendi Entertainment have begun solicating to retailers a September 7th DVD release of She-Ra: Princess of Power - The Complete Series. It's described as a 10-disc set with 93 episodes running approx. 2000 minutes (33+ hours) long. These will be presented in the original full-frame video and English mono audio of the television broadcasts. It is NOT known whether or not The He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special is included as part of this package (it's not mentioned, and the 93-episode count wouldn't seem to include it). Nor is there any reference to the "film edit" version of the original 5 episodes, "The Secret of the Sword". On the other hand, we do know that there will be some "swag" included inside of the packaging: Classic/Vivendi's solicitation to retailers mentions that bonus material found inside the box will include "T-shirt iron on, mini comic and more!" All of this will be enclosed by "eye-catching" collectible packaging with an elaborate o-ring outer card. This is all timed to tie-in with the 25th Anniversary of She-Ra, and even though the new DVD releases aren't happening until the near-fall time of year, Mattel is promoting the She-ra character with a new action figure at their Comic-Con booth in June, so visitors to that event in the coming weeks can probably expect to find out more about Classic Media's DVDs while there.

Package art images and pricing for She-Ra: Princess of Power - The Complete Series was not available in the information we saw, but Classic/Vivendi is keeping in mind that not everybody can afford an elaborate 10-DVD set right now. So they are also planning a lower-end 2-DVD package with the show's first 20 episodes, titled She-Ra: Princess of Power - Season 1, Volume 1. Keep in mind that BCI's now-discontinued releases had included a six-disc set of the exact same title, with thirty-three episodes on those discs. However, Classic Media's new release isn't following the same blueprint, so don't expect it to be the same: it has fewer discs and episodes, to ring up a lower price at the cash register. It will be available on the same date as The Complete Series collection: September 7th. On-disc extras and in-box bonus items, if any, weren't mentioned for this title in the info provided to retailers. Nor do we have specific pricing or package art for it yet, either. Also, there has not yet been any word about new DVD releases of the original 1983 Filmation He-Man series. Stay tuned, however, and we'll update you as soon as we find out anything further!

GI JOE RENEGADES, TRANSFORMERS PRIME, THE 99, & classic 80's Transformers & GI Joe coming to THE HUB!!

from Mediaweek:

DUKE character design from "G.I. Joe: Renegades"

With less than five months to go before its official launch, The Hub on Monday formally announced its inaugural programming lineup, taking the wraps off a mix of six original series and a dozen acquired programs.

The new joint venture from Discovery Communications and toymaker Hasbro bows on Oct. 10 with five home-grown series, plus a pair of shows produced by The Hatchery, a production company founded in 2003 by Hub president and CEO Margaret Loesch.

The five Hasbro Studios programs include a pair of animated shows (G.I. Joe Renegades and Pound Puppies), as well as a one-hour game show, Family Game Night. Joining the newly unveiled Hasbro series are Transformers Prime and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, both of which were announced last fall.

Meanwhile, the two projects from The Hatchery are: R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, a live-action anthology series based on the work of the titular kiddie-horror author, and Dan Vs., a cooperative effort with the Starz Media unit Film Roman.

Also on the roster is The 99, an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name in which a team of multinational superheroes band together to fight the forces of evil. The 99 is produced by Teshkeel Media and Endemol Digital UK Production Group.

Among the acquired Hub series are a number of familiar properties, including the Jim Henson classic Fraggle Rock, the Animal Planet franchise Meerkat Manor and a new CGI-animated Strawberry Shortcake.

“I’m delighted with the caliber of programming—which includes some beloved and popular brands—that we are bringing to the network’s new lineup,” said Loesch, by way of announcing the new slate. “We are focused on bringing together a diverse slate and a wide array of amazing creative talent to make The Hub a popular destination for children and their families.”

The Hub’s schedule will be divided into four demo-specific blocks. Preschool programming for kids 2-5 will air from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Kids Afternoon/Prime block will look to make a splash with the network’s primary target, members of the 6-12 crowd. Capping the programming day, Family Prime Access (6 p.m.-7 p.m.) leads into Family Prime (7 p.m. to 11 p.m.).

Set to bow in 60 million U.S. households, the Hub will be Nielsen-rated upon launch...
